Testimony to your hard work and success, that document deserves to be on view!
Whether it’s in a corporate setting, a professional waiting room or in your own home, why not add a little panache and prestige to its display?
No matter what you’re framing, every framing decision begins with your personal taste, the look you want to achieve, and where the work is to hang. With hundreds of choices in frames, mats and glazing, we take the time to ensure that your frame design is perfect for your situation.
So what are the most frequently asked questions about framing wedding photos?
What is a mat and why do I need one?
A mat is a border placed around the work. Its purpose is to provide separation between the work and the glass and also to highlight the certificate or degree inside its frame. The use of a mat to separate the glass and a degree also discourages mould development, particularly in our climate. But for most people the main advantage is visual. You can have any colour, or numbers of colours that enhance the work and coordinate with the certificate and frame. What you don’t see is the quality of the mat used. For highest protection, we only use conservation grade. In the long term, you’ll be glad that we do.
Do you glue it down to the backing?
Never! Permanent mounting should only be used on work of little value (decorator prints, for example). We hinge the work with small pieces of acid free tape so that it can respond to changes in humidity. This also allows your certificate or degree to be safely removed from the frame if need be.
What about glass?
Here we confront public enemy number one – ultra violet light. This will cause more damage over the long term than any other factor and thus we need to eliminate as much UV from your certificate as possible. Fortunately modern technology gives us the choice of using glazing materials that will block out 97% of harmful UV rays in both clear and reflection control finishes, this ensures that your degree will remain a treasured keepsake for years into the future.
What style of frame is trending right now?
The current look is dominated by simple profiles in black, white, dark brown and textures.
Making a big comeback are the metal frames. Whether brushed, polished or anodised, metal frames fit well in contemporary settings. Top of the pops are the crosshatch silver and gunmetal finishes and vibrant designer colours. This trend is particularly being embraced in the corporate environment where a streamlined modern style reflects the interior look of today. (Perhaps surprisingly, aluminium’s inherently sustainable characteristics make it a greener material than many timbers.)
Which is not to ignore traditional framing choices, which remain popular for all certificate-framing projects. Timber frames, particularly in offices and waiting rooms have a prestige that exudes professional quality and reassurance. Timbers come in a variety of stains and profiles, sometimes with a fine gold lip. Or consider Italian veneer mouldings…traditional and unbeatably classy…or small ornate gold and silver frames…there are really no limit to how you can frame your certificate or degree.
How much will it cost?
With so many degree-framing options it’s hard to answer that accurately. We believe that our prices are competitive with equivalent products and services. (A significantly lower price may indicate inferior quality products such as acidic paper mats or cheap plastic frames.)
But sometimes budget is the over-riding factor, so we keep a range of ready-made frames. These can be an economical solution, particularly for regulatory certificates that have to be changed over every year.
How long does it take? We’ll pull out all stops to meet your deadline. But in our normal flow of work, about a week and a half. We’re pretty flexible.
