Framing your wedding photos
Your wedding is the day when it truly is all about you! Testimony of your love for one another, the photos of this special day will be treasured for years to come. They deserve pride of place in your home, so why not add a little panache and prestige to their display?
At Boutique, it all starts at the design table. Here we take the time to explore your unique style so that the frame design reflects your personal taste and enhances and complements the photography. With hundreds of choices in frames, mats and glazing, we collaborate with you to create the perfect solution for your situation.
So what are the most frequently asked questions about framing wedding photos?
What style of frame is trending right now?
The current framing look is dominated by simple profiles in black, white, dark brown and textures. Textures can create many moods – rustic, beach/driftwood effects, retro styles and funky finishes.
Many people are now also choosing metal frames for their wedding photos. Whether brushed, polished or anodised, metal frames fit well in contemporary settings. For the ultimate in metal frames, you may want to look at crosshatch silver and gunmetal finishes and vibrant designer colours – the streamlined profiles that reflect the interior look of today. (Perhaps surprisingly, aluminium’s inherently sustainable characteristics make it a greener material than many timbers.)
Nevertheless, timber remains the timeless favourite for the majority of wedding photo frames. Contemporary or traditional, timber frames come in a variety of stains, widths and profiles. For some, only a formal ornate gold or silver frame will honour the memory of their special day. Other are ardent devotees of classic Italian veneer mouldings – unbeatably classy in classic profiles.
Whatever your look, there’ll be a timber to reflect it.
What is a mat and why do I need one?
A mat is a border placed around the photo. Its purpose is to provide separation between the work and the glass. (This discourages mould development, particularly in our climate.) But for most people the advantage is visual. You can have any colour, or numbers of colours that enhance the work and coordinate with the frame you choose for your wedding photos. Matboards vary in thickness – the widest range of colours and textures come in what framers describe as ‘4ply’, but a Boutique favourite is the double thick ‘8ply’. Cut on the bevel, the extra thickness adds upscale drama to any design. What you don’t see is the quality of the mat used. For highest protection, we only use conservation grade. In the long term, you’ll be glad that we do.
What about glass?
Here we confront public enemy number one – ultra violet light. This will cause more damage over the long term than any other factor and all steps should be taken to remove as much UV light from your wedding photos as possible. Fortunately modern technology gives us the choice of using glazing materials that will block out 97% of harmful UV rays in both clear and reflection control finishes, so we can keep your wedding photos looking like new in their frames for years into the future.
How much will it cost?
The cost of wedding photo framing depends on a number of factors, and, with so many options it’s hard to answer that accurately. We believe that our prices are competitive with equivalent products and services. (A significantly lower price may indicate inferior quality products such as acidic paper mats or cheap plastic frames.) But if budget is the over-riding factor at this stage of your lives, we’ll do our best to keep your project effective and affordable. We agree with the adage that sometimes less is more!
How long does it take?
We’ll pull out all stops to meet your deadline. But in our normal flow of work, about a week and a half. We’re pretty flexible.
